** MORE ACTS ANNOUNCED **

We’ve already announced the first round of music acts who’ll be taking to our stages at Metropolis Festival this November 3/4/5. Now, we’re ready to reveal our second round of brilliant acts who’ll be joining us in the RDS.

Friday

Groove Armada (DJ Set) | Clams Casino | Novelist | Mall Grab

Saturday

Floating Points (3hr DJ Set) | Klangkarussell | Shura

Across The Three Days

Grace Jones | DJ Shadow (Opening Party) | Solomun | Moderat

Groove Armada (DJ Set) | SBTRKT (DJ Set) | Booka Shade – Movements 10

Floating Points (3hr DJ Set) | BADBADNOTGOOD | Crystal Castles

The Sugarhill Gang | Shura | Clams Casino | Klangkarussell

Novelist | Fatima Yamaha | Fakear | Girl Band | Mall Grab

AND still plenty more to be announced ….

First up, the latest addition to this year’s line up, we’ll be joined by the legendary UK electronic duo, GROOVE ARMADA, who’ll be dipping into their back catalogue with what is guaranteed to be an unmissable DJ set.

We’ll also be welcoming the awesome FLOATING POINTS to Saturday’s bill for a very special 3 hour long extended set. Producer/DJ/Musician Sam Shepherd AKA Floating Points has been on the scene since his first release in 2009 and delivered on his potential last year with his debut LP “Elaenia”, one of the finest albums of the year. Not only a talented producer, his reputation as an incredibly gifted DJ is renowned, which is why we’ve invited him to take to the stage for 3 hours this November!

With her debut album Nothing’s Real just released, English singer SHURA will be taking her soulful electronic sound to the RDS. We can’t wait to catch her perfectly formed pop tracks like ‘What’s It Gonna Be’ and ‘Touch’ which was co-produced with Joel Pott from Athlete and has clocked up over 20 million views and counting.

American hip-hop musician Michael Volpe, better known as CLAMS CASINO has produced tracks for ASAP Rocky and Mac Miller becoming one of the most enigmatic and sought after producers in hip-hop. Instead of producing for others, this time the favour was returned with an all star cast appearing on his debut studio album 32 Levels, released in July of this year, and features, amongst others, A$AP Rocky, Joe Newman (Alt-J), Lil B, Kelela and Vince Staples.

London MC NOVELIST has been nominated for Best Grime Act at the 2014 MOBO’s as well as a nomination for the BBC Sound of 2015. With regular plays on radio stations including Rinse FM and BBC Radio 1Xtra and having featured on Skepta’s much anticipated album ‘Konnichiwa’ – we can’t wait to catch one of the fresh faces of grime.

Next up, it’s Austrian electronic duo KLANGKARUSSELL – their big break came from their massive hit ‘Sonnentanz’ which reached the top 10 in six countries. Since their debut album Netzwerk in 2014, they’ve even turned their hand to remixes for Laura Mvula  and Max Manie.

Newer to the scene, but not to be underestimated, 22-year-old Jordon Alexander aka MALL GRAB is breaking all kinds of moulds on his rapid rise to recognition on the world stage. Expect original house and techno material from this energetic newcomer.

** Harbour to Hotspot | Roots Revival Festival 24 – 28 August **

The Harbour Bar Presents

Harbour to Hotspot | Roots Revival Festival

24 / 25 / 26 / 27 / 28 August 2016

Roots Revival: “a trend which includes young performers popularising the traditional musical styles of their ancestors”

The Harbour Bar in Bray and The Hotspot Music Club in Greystones are known by local music lovers as the places to go in Wicklow to see some of Ireland’s finest original acts work their musical magic. Whether hosting the best up-and-coming bands, to established national treasures, regardless of the musical style, whenever you see a gig in either bar you can be guaranteed the quality is second to none!

Over the last weekend in August across 5 days & nights, these beautiful traditional Irish pub venues have joined forces to celebrate some of the finest folk, bluegrass, americana and country musical acts in the country with a couple of guests from farther afield in the Harbour to Hotspot – Roots Revival Festival. What better way to spend your last weekend of the summer, than tapping your toes or being on your feet, swooning or singing along to some incredible talent that you would expect from The Harbour Bar and The Hotspot Music Club? Check out the lineup and we hope to see you there!

I Draw Slow | Dr. Bluegrass & The Illbilly 8 | Amazing Apples | Old Hannah | The Young Folk | The BQ Trio | Dermot Byrne and Danny Tobin | Malojian | Gavin Glass & The Shakers | The Whileaways | N.C.Lawlor | Paddy Dennehy and The Red Herring | An Acoustic Ramble with Old Hannah & Friends | The Louisiana 6.

Five-piece outfit I Draw Slow have a sound rooted in old time Americana, with a twist! The Irish Times described their indie Irish/Americana compositions as “musically ambitious, thoughtfully performed”. Their album Redhills was named RTE Radio 1’s album of the week and headed the iTunes folk chart for Ireland within days of its release.

From Brighton to Bray, we’ve got the foot stompin’ bluegrass sounds from Dr. Bluegrass & The Illbilly 8. These guys are not shy of touring having played hoedowns to shindigs, hootenannys to barn dances, so be sure to get your dancin’ shoes on!

Hailing from Galway, Amazing Apples are a 5-piece multi-instrumentalist Indie/Folk band. Over the years they’ve played at Electric Picnic, Sea Sessions and Indiependence Festival, and have supported Ryan Sheridan, Paddy Casey, The Saw Doctors and Walking on Cars.

From Sligo with their own brand of roots, it’s the brilliant Old Hannah. The band are firmly rooted in old time sounds, as an early passion for bluegrass, western swing and roots saw them mix traditional and contemporary influences into a truly unique set of original music.

The Young Folk are fast making an impression on the Irish music scene, with their upbeat blend of alternative folk and immaculate harmonies. Their current albumFirst Sign of Morningis out now and the band are preparing for a headline show in Dublin’s Academy in October so make sure to catch them here in Bray first folks.

Next up, we welcome the talents of The BQ Trio with their alternative – folk influenced music and their unique minimalist sound, paired with superb harmonies, accompanied by guitar and trumpet. This promises to be a great set from one of the newer live bands to hit the scene.

With Dermot Byrne and Danny Tobin, expect a set of trad tunes bursting with energy from these exceptionally skilled musicians. We’re thrilled to have two of Ireland’s masters of Delta Blues join forces for this year’s festival.

Fronted by Stevie Scullion, it’s the turn of Malojian. Later this year the Northern Irish band will launch their brand new album ‘This is Nowhere’ – recorded with legendary producer Steve Albini (Pixies, Nirvana, Bonnie Prince Billy). With their star firmly on the rise, Malojian have gone from playing small venues in Northern Ireland to playing Glastonbury.

It’s a real treat for us to welcome Gavin Glass & The Shakers. Singer-songwriter and producer extraordinaire, Glass is one of Ireland’s most talented and hardworking musicians. Now on his fourth solo album Sunday Songs, he has also produced and played on numerous albums for the likes of Lisa Hannigan, Mundy, Cathy Davey and Declan O’Rourke, amongst many others.

Hailing from Galway, The Whileaways are three distinct voices combined with beautiful harmonies. Their debut album received four stars in the Irish Times and RTE Album of the Week. They’ve performed at Tonder Folk Festival (Denmark), Sligo Live and The Open House Festival in Belfast. Their second album ‘Saltwater Kisses’ (2015) sees the band cut a confident trail in roots music.

Probably the best slide guitarist to come out of the country is N.C.LawlorThe Dublin based bluegrass slide guitarist, singer and harmonica player is famous for his Grafton Street busking sessions & his Sunday gigs in Whelan’s. Lawlor stands out with his ultra fast slide, soulful lyrics and has played with some of the greats including Warren Haynes of The Allman Brothers and Shane MacGowan to name a few.

We’ve got the admired talents of skiffle six piece The Louisiana 6 – playing 50’s style Skiffle with a mix of gospel, country & bluegrass, they play the hits of Lonnie Donegan & Leadbelly. Penciled in to play at this year’s Electric Picnic and having just played The Knockanstockan Festivalbe sure to catch them at ours.

Paddy Dennehy & The Red Herring are a group who draw influences from as far back as the early 1900s right up to the present day. You can hear hints of Tom Waits, the delivery of Louis Armstrong and reminiscent of Hozier and Mick Flannery. A variety of influences, all of of them blended together to form a live performance that is at once unforgettable and utterly unique.

So there you have it folks, the new festival on the block. Get marking your calendars and come join us Brayside!

** FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT **

The award winning Metropolis Festival returns for its second chapter in November 2016, after its sell out first year. Set in the industrial array of warehouses and venues within the RDS complex across Thursday 3rd, Friday 4th and Saturday 5th of November – this unique indoor event offers a tapestry of music, art installations, performance and conversation over 6 stages, to once again create a stunning playground for the senses. We will be whetting your appetite with many announcements of installations, collaborations and artists performing over the next 8 weeks but today we can reveal our first batch of music announcements…

Grace Jones | DJ Shadow | Solomun | Moderat

SBTRKT (DJ Set) | Booka Shade – Movements 10

BADBADNOTGOOD | Crystal Castles | The Sugarhill Gang

Fatima Yamaha | Fakear | Girl Band

And many more ….

‘an impressive collection of visually stunning stages.’ DJ Mag

‘A festival with a difference’ Irish Independent

‘chilled out vibe and knock your socks off line up’ nomoreworkhorse

‘Metropolis has given the Irish music scene a shot in the arm it didn’t think it even needed.’ The Last Mixed Tape

‘Winter in Ireland just became a lot less depressing’ state.ie

First up, as a new addition to this year’s proceedings, Thursday 3rd November will host a limited capacity METROPOLIS OPENING PARTY in The Shelbourne Hall, RDS which will feature none other than experimental hip hop DJ, producer and renowned turntable veteran, DJ SHADOW!!

Headlining the weekend is an artist who requires no introduction, Grace Jones. One of the most unforgettable artists to emerge from New York’s hedonistic Studio 54 disco scene in the late 70s, she is an incredible live performer and we can’t wait to welcome her to Metropolis this year.

His first time back in Ireland since 2010, we have none other than experimental hip hop DJ and renowned turntable veteran, DJ Shadow. Shadow’s first full-length LP, Endtroducing, was released in late 1996 to immense critical acclaim. His performance will incorporate the 20 year anniversary of this LP, frequently lauded as one of the most important works of the last 50 years.

Following on from his summer residency in Ibiza’s Pacha this year, we’re looking forward to Bosnian DJ/ producer Solomun. He’s played a major role in redefining Eastern European House Music, adding an exciting twist to the genre.

Moderat is a three-piece electronic music project hailing from Berlin. Made up of  Sascha Ring, also known as Apparat, & Modeselektor members Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary, Magnetic Magazine call this collaborative project ‘one of the most exciting things in dance music in recent history’.

SBTRKT aka Aaron Jerome, will be taking to the Metropolis stage with an amazing DJ set and light show. He’s remixed for heavyweights such as Radiohead, Underworld, MIA, Basement Jaxx and Mark Ronson and frequently collaborating with Sampha. This year saw the release of Save Yourself, the latest release from SBTRKT since his 2014 album Wonder Where We Land.

Berlin-based duo Booka Shade (Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier) have carved out a reputation as one of the most celebrated electronic acts to come out of Europe over the past two decades. This year marks the tenth anniversary of their era-defining and career-kickstarting Movements album. To celebrate the occasion they’ve re-issued the album, so now Movements 10 includes new masters and brand new versions of key tracks which the pair will be delivering live on the Metropolis stage.

Canadian group BADBADNOTGOOD have been blowing audiences away with their interpretations of hip hop tracks and have collaborated with the likes of Tyler, The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown and Ghostface Killah. In July of this year they released their hotly anticipated album IV, featuring a track with Future Islands’ Sam Herring along with contributions from Kaytranada, Charlotte Day Wilson, Colin Stetson and Mick Jenkins.

Renowned for their chaotic live shows, we can’t wait for Canadian electroclash band Crystal Castles to hit the festival this year. Fresh from releasing a new track Concrete last week, a new album is expected to follow this August to keep us going ‘til November.

American hip-hop legends Sugar Hill Gang have been the inspiration to numerous hip hop artists over the course of the last 3 decades – and are the first group to have a rap single in the Billboard Charts with their anthemic Rappers Delight.

Fatima Yamaha is the moniker of Dutch electronic artist and producer, Bas Bron. His track What’s A Girl To Do is one of dance music’s most pronounced sleeper hits and this set is sure to be one to catch.

At only 24, French producer Theo Le Vigoureux aka Fakear, has already taken his energetic sound around the world playing sell out shows. Quickly emerging from the French electronic scene, it’s only taken 4 EP’s before he released his debut album Animal this year, which received serious hype and attention. This young producer’s popularity is only on the rise.

Irish quartet Girl Band have been thrilling audiences with their live shows both at home and abroad. The Irish Times said of the band There really is no other Irish band around at the moment that can channel No Wave disharmony as well as Girl Band.’ Their debut album Holding Hands With Jamie was heaped with deserved critical acclaim.

The Irish Times said of the band ‘There really is no other Irish band around at the moment that can channel No Wave disharmony as well as Girl Band.’ Their debut album Holding Hands With Jamie was heaped with deserved critical acclaim.

Aside from a stellar line-up of musicians, we will be welcoming some leading talents to come and host conversations within the RDS. We’ll be announcing visual installations and lots more exciting elements soon.

ANDREW STANLEY MC – JARLATH REGAN – JOE ROONEY – PATRICK MCDONNELL – KEVIN MCGAHERN – EDWIN SAMMON – GEAROID FARRELLY – ALISON SPITTLE – JJ WHITEHEAD – JIM ELLIOT – EMMAN IDAMA – STEVE BENNETT – RONAN GRACE – RYAN CULLEN – PAUL MARSH – GRAINNE MCKEEVER – COLIN CHADWICK

The Comedy Tent at this year’s Forbidden Fruit Festival plans to provide an oasis, where even the most committed of revellers can take a break from the magical musical mayhem, with a lineup that has something for all comedic tastes.

Comedian, writer, illustrator, Jarlath Regan has received rave reviews for his Irishman Abroad podcast which features interviews with the likes of Chris O’Dowd, Boy George, Dylan Moran and Graham Linehan and is listened to by more than 1 million people worldwide. However, it’s as a stand up where he truly shines, with his mix of fantastic tales and over the top observations.

Better known as Fr Damo from Fr Ted, Joe Rooney is a legend from the Irish comedy scene and he’ll be joined by another Fr Ted stalwart in Patrick McDonnell, aka Eoin McLove. Another comedian who would be more familiar to TV audiences is presenter of the satirical TV show ‘The Republic Of Telly, the wonderfully acerbic Kevin McGahern, prepare to be wowed by this loveable Cavan scamp. Kevin will be joined by fellow Republic Of Telly star Edwin Sammon, who also played the part of ‘Fr Gabriel’ in the recent RTE hit show Bridget and Eamon.

Gearoid Farrelly is one of Ireland’s best loved comics and whether it’s as an opening act for the likes of Joan Rivers, Sarah Millican or Neil Delamere, through to his many TV and radio appearances, his deliciously cruel material, delivered with a cheeky glee does not contain a duff moment. Alison Spittle is one of the fastest rising acts out there with numerous TV and radio projects in the pipeline and you’ll be seeing a lot more of this Mullingar livewire real soon.

There will be an international flavour to the proceedings this year with globetrotting Canadian stand up JJ Whitehead jetting in for a special show. A man whose style is so easy and laid back that he lures you into thinking you’re just having a drink with a highly entertaining friend down the pub. Other overseas acts include American comic Jim Elliot and Nigerian Emman Idama.

The whimsical musical stylings of Steve Bennett never fail to engage and circuit regulars regulars Ronan Grace and Ryan Cullen are experienced comics who know where the funny bones are and how to tickle them.

Newcomers will also be given a chance to shine and great things are predicted for Paul Marsh, Grainne McKeever and Colin Chadwick plus the winner of the Forbidden Fruit Comedy Talent search competition.

All this under the watchful eye of your MC and compere for the weekend the human dynamo that is Andrew Stanley, who is quite simply the best host that any festival show could have. His lively banter and unrivalled audience interaction make for a party like atmosphere for both punters and performers alike.

The Comedy Tent at the Forbidden Fruit Festival runs from

Saturday 3.30pm – 8pm | Sunday 3.30pm – 8pm

Forbidden Fruit joins forces with three of Ireland’s homegrown Apps

Brand new to Forbidden Fruit this year, we’re delighted to lend a hand to nurturing a new generation of Irish creatives who use code rather than beats to bring their vision to the world. We’ve hooked up with some true innovators from Ireland’s App world, to bring an extra dimension to this year’s festival. Check out three brand new Apps that’ll be making their debut at this year’s festival.

GRAMMA

The Music Streaming App Based On Mood www.gramma-music.com

Second generation techie, Patrick Quinn from Dublin, created Gramma because he was sick of spending too much of his day making playlists. Gramma is a music streaming service to rival Spotify but with a huge difference. Gramma selects music for you based on your mood, facial recognition, the weather, the environment around you and what you’re doing.

For this year’s Forbidden Fruit, Patrick is building a Gramma DJing Robot which will choose music based on what’s around it and how people are feeling. Patrick has himself coded the Gramma app, which is available on Apple Store, to maximise all that a smartphone can do.

SHOTCLIP

The Crowd Movie Making App www.shotclip.com

Shotclip is a social movie making app which allows the crowd to come together to record events. Forbidden Fruit is using Shotclip to make movies with our amazing audience this year. Our backstage camera crews will be uploading exclusive footage which anyone will be able to combine with their own personal footage to create movie memories of Forbidden Fruit right from their mobile.

Dundalk native Conor McNally, created Shotclip to help people make better movies. Shotclip started out as a web-site and over the last twelve months Conor and his team have turned it into an app which is on Apple Store and Google Play. In the lead-up to the festival we’ll be launching a competition with Shotclip to reward the best budding movie maker at Forbidden Fruit.
